Coffee Night at Istanbul Cultural Center
The Atlantic Institute hosted its second Coffee Night on September 13th at the Istanbul Cultural Center. The event, which ran from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, was a delightful evening filled with the rich aromas and flavors of traditional Turkish beverages.
Guests were treated to a variety of unique coffees, including Traditional Turkish Coffee, Mastic Flavored Turkish Ground Coffee, Dibek Coffee, Menengic Coffee, and Ottoman Coffee. Additionally, the special drink Salep was served, adding a sweet and creamy touch to the evening.
The event saw a wonderful turnout, with 60 guests joining to enjoy the diverse coffee offerings. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, fostering new friendships and engaging conversations.
A highlight of the evening was a presentation on Turkish coffee, covering its historical roots and fascinating facts. Guests also participated in fun games, such as “Yes/No” and “Have You Ever” questions, which added an element of excitement and interaction to the night.
Menu Highlights:
- Traditional Turkish Coffee: Originating from the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century, this coffee is known for its strong taste and thick foam. It was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2013.
- Salep: A traditional Turkish hot drink made from orchid tubers, known for its creamy consistency and nutritional benefits.
- Menengic Coffee: Made from the fruits of the wild pistachio tree, this caffeine-free alternative has a distinctive nutty flavor.
- Dibek Coffee: Ground in a stone mortar, this coffee has a unique, softer taste and is often mixed with natural flavors like mastic or chocolate.
- Ottoman Coffee: A rich and robust coffee enhanced with spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves, symbolizing hospitality and social interaction.
- Mastic Flavored Turkish Ground Coffee: This coffee, made with mastic gum, offers a pleasant aroma and subtle flavor, known for aiding digestion and reducing bad breath.
The Coffee Night was a resounding success, leaving guests with a deeper appreciation for Turkish coffee culture and many fond memories.
